Fake Science

by Katie Bowell, Curator of Cultural Interpretation

The Brainiac Bowl is almost upon us! As those of you who will be competing are finishing up your costumes (think you can top last year’s Pi-Rats?),

you may also be planning on some last minute cramming to ensure your science, history and general information smarts are up to snuff. There are plenty of places you can go for your final study session: the museum, the library, those text books you’ve saved since college (quick note: just remember to cross Pluto off the list of planets…for now), but the best resource of all? Fake Science.

Did you ever wonder how fish breathe underwater? How about how a volcano erupts? Fake Science has answers! They’re probably not right ones, but how picky are you?

So good luck at tomorrow’s Brainiac Bowl, have a great time, and be sure to come by the museum and learn the real stories behind scientific phenomena. Including the fact that there are robotic spiders…
